Today is Ukrainian Independence Day! 

34 years ago, Ukraine declared its independence, and 92% of Ukrainians confirmed their choice to decide on their own future. With this, Ukrainians regained their freedom of speech, freedom of religion, and democracy.

This morning, members of the Ukrainian Association of South Africa, together with the Embassy of Ukraine, attended Mass at Regina Mundi Catholic Church in Soweto. We gathered to honour Ukraine’s independence, to pray for a just peace, and for the safe return of all children who have been forcefully deported. 

We are grateful to all South Africans who are praying in different ways for the long-lasting just peace in Ukraine.
