Ukrainian Association of South Africa Welcomes Zelensky’s Visit to South Africa and Condemns russian Attacks on Civilians in Kyiv

24 April, PRETORIA – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and First Lady Olena Zelenska are visiting South Africa on an official visit. The Ukrainian Association of South Africa (UAZA) welcomes the visit as a vital step forward in strengthening dialogue between the two nations.

This visit is a much-needed step towards a strong relationship between our countries, both of which hold democracy and freedom as fundamental values,” said Kateryna Aloshyna, President of UAZA. “We also share a long history – Ukraine stood in solidarity with South Africans during the fight against apartheid. Now, we are looking towards a common future, as Ukraine and South Africa hold many mutually beneficial economic and political interests. And of course, we are very grateful to President Ramaphosa for this invitation and hope that improved communication will contribute to long-term, sustainable peace in Ukraine.

UAZA strongly condemns the large-scale missile attack carried out last night by russia on residential areas in Kyiv and the surrounding regions. This is yet another appalling violation of international humanitarian law and a stark reminder that russia is a terrorist state waging war against Ukraine to advance its imperial ambitions – to colonise Ukraine and erase Ukrainian identity.
